QuickWrite of the Day #8: Humour

"Writing can be used as a vehicle to express ourselves as we negotiate the journey through our lives” (Gallagher, 2011: p. 24)

Today’s QuickWrite of the Day:

In his memoir Man’s Search for Meaning, Holocaust survivor Victor Frankl describes humour as giving human beings “an ability to rise above any situation, even if only for a few seconds” and as “some kind of a trick learned while mastering the art of living.”

On a daily walk past my niece’s house, I can see that they have taken this on board by putting up this ‘knock-knock’ joke in their front window (see above), as a way of building some silliness and brightness into their day. What silly moments or scenarios have you noticed, thought about or experienced in the past week? You might want to consider funny memes or videos shared on social media, parodies or funny snippets of dialogue you have heard around the house. It could even be a fleeting thought of your own that you thought was funny. Jot it down and write about it. What was your reaction when you came across it and why?

Happy writing!
