QuickWrite of the Day #45: Crossing That Bridge

My Thoughts.PNG

"Writing can be used as a vehicle to express ourselves as we negotiate the journey through our lives” (Gallagher, 2011: p. 24)

Today’s QuickWrite:

When I look at the picture below, I am reminded of a quote from the Garth Nix book Sabriel: “Does the walker choose the path, or the path the walker?” I’m wondering what’s on the other side of this bridge, and am thinking about what might happen if a person crosses it, and what they’ll find on the other side. There are so many unknowns to ponder!

What questions pop into YOUR mind when you look at this picture? Jot them down and choose a few as inspiration for your writing. You could:

  • Write about a person crossing the bridge

  • Write about what the bridge reminds you of in your life (eg: ‘Going back to school is like crossing a bridge…’, a time you went hiking)

  • Write about trying to write about the picture of the  bridge (eg: “So my teacher has asked us to write about this picture I don’t know much about…”)

Just let go, write nonstop for a few minutes and see where it takes you!
