Quickwrite of the Day #69: The Museum of Me

“Writing can be used as a vehicle to express ourselves as we negotiate the journey through our lives” (Gallagher, 2011: p.24)

When we wander through a museum we encounter objects and artefacts of historical, scientific, artistic, and cultural significance that can give us an insight into different times and places, as well as the opportunity to learn more about interesting topics and subjects.

In today's QuickWrite we want you to imagine your life as a museum. Think about what artefacts or objects that represent you and your life would be on display as visitors walk through your ‘Museum of Me.’

As you write you could consider:

  • What objects or artefacts you would include

  • What your museum would look like

  • What visitors would learn and discover in the museum of you

  • What kind of experience you would like people to have in the museum of you

Find your way to express your thinking. This might include:

  • Writing a list of artefacts and objects to include in the museum of you

  • Drawing or sketching the layout, or a particular room, of your museum

  • Drawing or sketching a specific object or artefact

  • Writing an information brochure or advertisement describing the museum of you

  • Writing a museum label, a caption describing an object in your museum

  • Writing from the perspective of a visitor you the museum of you; what they would see, what they would discover, how they would react

  • Creating a collage of the items in the museum of you, using photos and other objects or items
