Quickwrite of the Day #67: Life is like a roller coaster

“Writing can be used as a vehicle to express ourselves as we negotiate the journey through our lives” (Gallagher, 2011: p.24)

Today’s Quickwrite:

You are likely familiar with the phrase ‘life is like a roller coaster’ to describe the unpredictable ups and downs of life (as well as the thrills and fears - depending on your personal love or hate of roller coasters).

Today we want you to use this simile to stimulate some writing.

As you write you could consider:

  • In what ways you connect with life as a roller coaster

  • How your life is like a roller coaster

  • If another amusement park ride represents you or your life more accurately (which one? why?)

  • The feeling of riding a roller coaster or a different amusement ride

  • A memorable experience of an amusement ride

  • What your perfect amusement ride would be

Find your way to express your thinking. This might include:

  • Writing poetically

  • A personal reflection

  • Recounting a memorable amusement ride experience

  • Painting a picture with your words

  • Sketching and designing your own amusement ride

Happy writing!
