Quickwrite of the Day #65: The seasons are a changin’

My Thoughts.PNG

“Writing can be used as a vehicle to express ourselves as we negotiate the journey through our lives” (Gallagher, 2011: p.24)

Today’s Quickwrite:

All around us is evidence of the changing season; the autumnal tones of orange and brown of the leaves on the ground, the frost on the car windshield on chilly mornings, the sunny afternoons, the crisp and cool evenings.

For some of us this is welcomed as we envelope ourselves in our warm and comforting jackets and scarves and the smell of wood fires escape the chimneys. For others it is the mournful ending of long evenings and kisses from the sun, the adventures of summer now just a memory.

Today we want you to be inspired by the changing of the season.

As you write you could consider:

  • How the changing seasons make you feel

  • What you see, touch, taste, hear or smell when you think of this season

  • The signs for you that the season has changed -- what are the first changes that you notice?

  • The images that represent the changing seasons

  • What your favourite season is, and why

  • If seasons affect your mood

  • What colours you associate with the season

Find your way to express your thinking. This might include:

  • Writing poetically

  • A personal reflection

  • Painting a picture with your words

  • Taking photos or sketching images that represent the changing of seasons for you

  • Writing to persuade (favourite season or why the changing of seasons is good/bad)
